Many of ACSA’s services can only operate through the support of volunteers. ACSA welcomes support from the public, whether or not you are a member of one of the communities closely affected by HIV/AIDS.
Opportunities for Volunteering at ACSA
The AIDS Council’s work focuses on education and prevention of HIV/AIDS here in South Australia. We are not able to provide opportunities or training for working with HIV/AIDS programs outside of Australia.
Working with affected communities
The AIDS Council of South Australia has a number of programs that require volunteers from the communities that we work with – gay men, people living with HIV, people who inject drugs and sex workers. For further information about these volunteering opportunities please contact ACSA on 8334 1611 or by email to information@acsa.org.au.
General administrative support
From time to time we require volunteers to assist us with administrative work – these volunteer roles are listed at Volunteering SA. Please visit their website at http://www.volunteeringsa.org.au or call them on 8221 7177 for details.
World AIDS Day
Each year ACSA co-ordinates awareness and fundraising events around December the 1st, World AIDS Day. Some of the things volunteers assist us with include preparing and distributing Red Ribbon Boxes, collecting in the mall and helping at events. These volunteer opportunities are also listed at Volunteering SA towards the end of the year. Of course, if you’ve assisted with World AIDS Day in the past, please just call us to register your interest in helping with this year’s events.
Training
Apart from World AIDS Day volunteers, all new volunteers and staff of ACSA are required to undergo an HIV/AIDS awareness training program, which is conducted in conjunction with Relationships Australia. It is, however, possible to begin volunteering in some areas prior to completing this course.
Some roles may also require you to attend an additional training program which you will need to complete before you commence your actual involvement, as well as ongoing in-service training. You will be told what training requirements are involved before you begin work with us.
There is no charge for attending the ACSA training courses mentioned above, however please keep in mind that the HIV/AIDS awareness course is compulsory.
