HIV in South Australia
At the end of 2010, it was estimated that over 20,000 people were living with diagnosed HIV in Australia 1200 people have been diagnosed since 1985 in South Australia.
Historically, HIV has been transmitted mainly between
men who have sex with men (MSM), although this has changed slightly over recent years. Over a quarter of people
who are diagnosed with HIV infection actually contracted the virus sometime in the 12 months prior to the
HIV-positive diagnosis, which means a lot of guys who have HIV don’t even know it. If you are fucking with, or being fucked by, other men, you should get tested at least once a year to make sure you know your status. Protect yourself and reduce the spread of HIV.
If you have lots of sexual partners, you should get tested every three to six months. Talk to your GP or sexual health clinic about how often you should test. |
